our council is considering on changing the zoning of some of 60 from residential to commercial. there are some questions that need answering first.

has there been an interest from some business to build on the land

what is going to happen to the landowners on the property because their property can not be sold as residential there by devaluing the value of their houses. it may increase the value of the actual land, but not the houses.

if a house is destroyed by fire or nature will the landowner be able to rebuild. the answer to this is no.

has any communities that have done this speculation been polled to see what has happened to date. just how much industry has moved in and was there interest before they changed the zoning

if you are going to change the zoning, why not all the way to city limit. if you are going to effect peoples' land then effect the mayors as well. fair for one fair for all

how is the city treating the businesses that are already here. are they trying to help them improve

if the council wants to draw new business to granby then improve main street. clean up the streets and properties. keep the sidewalks clean. changing zoning or annexing properties to speculate that this will bring new business to granby is not the answer

the first thing a new business is going to do is a traffic study followed by availability of workers, easy access to roads, benefits from the city and whether the land has utilities. they will also talk to other business owners about support from the city

THIS CHANGE OF ZONING IS NOT A VOTING ISSUE WHERE TAXPAYERS WILL HAVE A VOICE. IT IS DECIDED BY THE COUNCIL ALONE. LET THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS. making a city grow starts from within not speculation about what might happen. fix the interior first then look to the outside for growth.
