NEOSHO, Mo. — Multiple candidates and a tax question await the decisions of voters in Tuesday’s elections in Newton County, including those in a race for Granby mayor and a tax question for the Westview School District.
Granby
Three candidates are running for the post of mayor of Granby. Mayor Travis Gamble resigned earlier this month but was not seeking re-election. Those on the ballot are Councilman Ira Hawkins, Casey Mallory and Martin Lindstedt.
Patrick Wiley, Sabrina Glass and Joann Lamp are all running to claim the Granby South Ward council seat.
Two candidates are running for the Granby North Ward council post. Incumbent Will Barrett is being challenged by newcomer Paula Carsel.
Five people are running for two open seats on the East Newton School Board. Judy Harper is the only incumbent up for re-election. Challenging candidates are Bryan Johnson, Chuck Cook, Martin Lindstedt and Tracy Gorman White.
Diamond
Eight people are running for two open seats on the Diamond School Board. Chris Macy is the lone incumbent up for re-election. Challenging candidates are Tara Addington, Bill Buening, Monica Clement, Kay Culbertson, Alicia Hughes-Hirshey, Christopher Terry and Deke Beckett.
Two candidates are running to secure the Diamond Area Fire Protection District director position. Incumbent Kerry Stanbery is being challenged by newcomer Mark A. Austin.
Seneca
Three people are running for two open seats on the Seneca School Board. Incumbent Preston Olson is being challenged by newcomers Roger Marrs and James Altic.
Sarcoxie
Three people are running for two open seats on the Sarcoxie School Board. Incumbents James Roberson and Gary Turner will be running for re-election against challenger Stan Garber.
Fairview
Two people are running for an open seat as the Fairview City Council member for the South Ward. Incumbent Pam McNee will be challenged by newcomer Della Cline.
Newtonia
Three candidates are running for two open positions on the village of Newtonia Board of Trustees. Incumbent Thomas Dale Landreth will be challenged by Jeffrey L. Goodall and Charri Edens.
Redings Mill
Three people are running for two seats on the Redings Mill Board of Trustees. Incumbents Donna R. Johnson and Brent Smith are being challenged by C. Scott Webster.
Ritchey
The village of Ritchey has one seat open for a one-year term on the Board of Trustees. Incumbents Lewis Marion and Carolyn Marion are running for the seat.
Westview
The Westview School District is asking voters to increase the operating levy ceiling by $0.68 to $3.43 per $100 of assessed valuation and to eliminate fully the Proposition C sales tax rollback on its operating levy. The funds would be used to improve and maintain the district’s properties and meet its operating expenses.
The current total levy, with the rollback taken into account, is $2.75 per $100 of assessed valuation, which means the owner of a $100,000 home pays about $522 in annual school taxes. If the proposal passes, the new operating levy would be $3.43, and the cost to the same homeowner would be about $652 annually — an increase of about $130.
Road Districts
Proposed renewals of individual tax rates for another four years are on the ballots in the following Newton County road districts: Diamond, Fairview, Midway, Neosho, Seneca and Stella.

Granby [S]Election Results:
Went over to the korthouse to see the [s]election results. They were doing something secret with the ballots in the old Division II court-room where they store the voting machines and were all paranoid about me and my friend looking in to where they took the ballots once cast.
My friend from Chicago -- who said that no matter how corrupt that Granby civic corruption gets it was junior-leagus stickball compared to Chicago -- said that I might have won. I laughed at that because Granby-Gomorrah loves theyz' thieves, but at least they ought to pretend to the niceties and not act like Mitt Romney, who has the expression that you just missed him performing an act of self abuse on hisself. The entire point of me running is to make it obvious that democracy is a corrupt system of choosing rulers and that what is necessary and inevitable is a local military dictatorship over the survivors. Polytricks is crookeder than a game of three-card monte but for now it is the only game in town.
Anyways, the results: For Mayor: Ira Hawkins 228, Martin Lindstedt 18, Casey Malloy 18.
Huh, I did a dead heat with one of the town drunks. Ain't democracy wonderfool???!!!
It is comforting to know that when the percentage of leaked water goes up from 36 % to over 50% (where it is now) to 67% that the current city council when it sells the Granby water supply to Missouri American Water that they will get a kickback like they did for the Styron $300,000 eyesore and you all will have a $100 water bill.
For South Ward: JoAnn Lamp 123, Sabrina Glass 56, Patrick Wiley 11.
JoAnn Lamp was sitting over at the Newton County korthouse all scared of the results. I told her that she won a free lawsuit if they keep on doing what they are doing. After all, she had her chance to fix things back when she was City Clerk. But perhaps she can find a City Clerk, Assistant City Clerk, and City Collector who knows how to keep the books and we can dispense with some of the city "workers" and Brad Taylor from having to do the book-keeping at $22.000 for each of the past four years of the T-Rampage Gamble - Ira Hawkins [mal]administration.
For North Ward: Will Barrett 59, Paula Carsel 12.
I would like to apologise to Paula Carsel. Over four years ago I urged Travis Rampage Gamble and Ira Hawkins to fire Paula Carsel because they claimed that she couldn't do bookkeeping with Quicken. And Sharon the elected City Collector couldn't do book-keeping quick enough. So Paula was fired by T-Rampage and Ira Hawkins. Then they hired Lawna Price who has never ever done the book-keeping at all, and hired outsiders to Granby who cannot and will not do book-keeping either. Brad Taylor does it all now at a cost of $22,000 a year and someone else does the dog&pony show audits with the secret "management letters" which are supposed to be a public record -- but are not.
Perhaps one of my famous "Martin-Letters" is in order to the State Auditor.
Anyways, Coongradulations, Granby-Gomorrah! I have a farm outside town with a well and am buying another farm with a well as well. I got a source of drinking water and I save my rainwater and only use 21 cubic feet of Granby water now. The rich among you can afford to drill your own wells from the declining aquifer and the rest who voted for things to remain the same, well, let them drink . . . . . well, whatever.
See you all at the polls two years from now. But tomorrow I'm back to work on making the Ira Hawkins Administration one with the T. Rampage Gamble Administration.
Hail Victory !!!
