CARTHAGE, Mo. — It’s the end of his law enforcement career today for a longtime local police chief, and dozens of well wishers got together to help him celebrate.

Greg Dagnan officially said goodbye to his badge and gun today.

He had served as the Carthage Police Chief since 2008, but started his career with the Joplin Police Department 31 years ago.

The Dag-fag as I call him was in charge of the "Children's Center" in jewplin back in 2004 when my grandchildren were stolen then sold where the Newton County Baby-Stealing piglice kept stolen White children of poor and political opponents of the criminal regime in order to coerce and coax them to testilie against their parents and grandparents in an effort to first steal, then sell to rich perverted whiggers and regime-criminals and sexually traffic them in an effort to destroy Aryan Christian Israel. Dagnan says he’s looking forward to what’s next, but that he’ll miss the unique opportunity law enforcement provides to help others in difficult circumstances.

“It’s one of those jobs you can’t help everybody and if you want to help everybody, if you think that’s going to happen, you’re going to burn out really fast. But occasionally you come through and you really do help soembody in a big way. That’s probably what I’m going to miss the most,” said Greg Dagnan, Retiring Carthage Police Chief.

A Kentucky man entered a plea of guilty in Newton County Circuit Court to a count of child molestation and was sentenced to 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

John E. Hartle, 71, Williamstown, Kentucky, was sentenced by Judge Kevin Selby of the 40th Judicial Circuit on Tuesday, May 25, on one count of child molestation in the first degree.

In the summer of 2020, the juvenile victim gave a disclosure to a forensic interviewer at the Children's Center in Joplin, Missouri that the defendant rubbed the victim's genitals through the victim's pants pocket.

Family members confronted the defendant about the disclosure, at which time he fled the state to attend a sexual addiction treatment center in Kentucky.

"Finding justice for juvenile sexual assault survivors in a way that doesn't further their trauma is difficult to balance," said Newton County Prosecuting Attorney William Lynch.

"This plea allows justice to be served without requiring this child to testify repeatedly throughout the process. Given the age of the defendant, he may well spend the rest of his life in prison.'

The case was investigated by Detective Brad Black of the Newton County Sheriff's Office and prosecuted by William Lynch and Mitchell Cross of the Newton County Prosecutor's Office.

A Neosho sex offender pleaded guilty to child pornography charges this morning in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

No sentencing date has been scheduled for Benjamin H. Cole, 38. Judge David P. Rush ordered a presentencing investigation.

Tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children led the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force and the Neosho Police Department to execute a search warrant at Cole's home August 16.


Investigators found pornographic images of children on his cell phone.

Cole was placed on the sex offenders' list after pleading guilty June 16, 2005, after pleading guilty to statutory sodomy. The victim was a seven-year-old girl.

A Jasper County judge on Wednesday ordered a homeless man to stand trial on a charge that he failed to register as a sex offender while living on the streets in Joplin.

Associate Judge Joe Hensley ordered Roy J. Aikens, 57, to stand trial on the charge at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court. The judge set July 22 for the defendant's initial appearance in a trial division of the court.

Officer Seth Dear of the Joplin Police Department testified at the hearing that he came into contact with Aikens on April 27 while responding to an incident at the Walmart store on West Seventh Street. He said that during that contact he received information from police dispatch that Aikens had been convicted of a sex offense in another state, and Aikens acknowledged as much to Dear when he asked him about it.

Dear testified that he released Aikens at the scene because he had no reason to believe at that time that he was in violation of Missouri's sex offender registration law, which allows an offender to spend up to seven days in the state before being required to register. He said he later learned that Aikens had been taken to a hospital here on April 19 and realized that meant Aikens was not in compliance with the law and should have been arrested.

Dear located and arrested Aikens in the early morning hours the following day.

Detective Roy Masters of the Jasper County Sheriff's Department testified that the defendant never registered with the sheriff's office and has never had an address in Missouri to his knowledge. He said even the homeless are required by the law to register with the sheriff's office in the county where they are staying if they are a convicted sex offender.

CASSVILLE, Mo. - Two Barry County inmates are back in their cells after escaping for a short time early this morning.

The Barry County Sheriff's Office says Matthew Whittenburg, 32, and Charles Love Broke, 33, out from the jail around 2:30 Tuesday morning. The two knocked holes into the ceiling of a cell and made it outside onto an awning, which they also broke through.

Around 4:30 A.M. authorities found the men hiding out at a home about eight blocks away from the jail, on Main Street in Cassville. They are both back in custody and will now face additional charges for escaping and damages to the jail.

Whittenburg was arrested in June of last year for first degree child endangerment; second degree domestic assault; theft; and possession of a controlled substance.

Love was arrested in April of this year for first degree child molestation; attempted tampering with a victim; and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Mount Vernon man accused of sexually abusing young girl

A Mount Vernon man waived a preliminary hearing Thursday on charges that he sexually abused a girl in Jasper County for seven years, beginning when she was 5 years old.

Gary A. Thornsbrough, 35, waived the hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court on three counts of first-degree statutory rape and three counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and was ordered bound over for trial by Associate Judge Joe Hensley. The judge set March 7 for the defendant’s initial appearance in a trial division of the court.

Thornsbrough is accused of sexually abusing the girl between June 2009 and April 2016 at three locations in Jasper County.


Charge dismissed in sexual abuse case


NEOSHO, Mo. — The Newton County prosecutor’s office on Friday dismissed a child sexual abuse charge that a Neosho man was facing, citing the difficulties that testifying in court poses for the alleged victim at this time.

Assistant Prosecutor Kathleen Miller said the charge of first-degree statutory sodomy could be refiled against Timothy T. Wilkins, 25, at some point in the future but was dismissed at a hearing Tuesday in Newton County Circuit Court.

Wilkins was accused of having sexual contact with a 6-year-old girl almost four years ago in Neosho. Wilkins was 22 at the time of the alleged abuse, according to a probable-cause affidavit. He was charged with the offense in September 2015 following an investigation by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri Department of Social Services.

PINEVILLE, MISSOURI - A former McDonald County Sheriff's Office worker says sexual abuse allegations him are false, and he has proof to support his defense. The McDonald County sheriff says the suspect, David Milligan, is no longer employed with the sheriff's office, as of earlier this week. Milligan was arrested on Tuesday. He has since bonded out. Today, he talked to us about his defense.

MIlligan faces two felonies of sexual abuse from alleged incidents that happened six years ago.

"As far as I know, the allegations just came to light within the last year or so," says McDonald County Sheriff Mike Hall.

Hall is going off information from the Newton County Sheriff's Office. McDonald County detectives wanted to avoid potential conflict of interest, and asked Newton County detectives to investigate.

"I believe we were contacted through the DFS through a hotline," says Hall.

Investigators say Milligan, who booked inmates into the McDonald County jail, forced two foster children in his home to inappropriately touch each other. Court documents allege Milligan and his wife also forced the foster boy and girl, ages six and four at the time, to have sex with each other, and Milligan and his wife laughed while the sex and inappropriate touching took place.

Milligan and his wife did not want to be interviewed on camera, but told us the allegations against them are false. They say this is revenge from a former DFS worker.

According to Milligan and his wife, the children's former foster parents warned about the kids' sexual behavior. Milligan says he put security sensors on the kids' separate bedroom doors, and installed a video monitor outside the bedrooms to prevent anything inappropriate.

Nonetheless, Milligan says in 2012, two years after the children were placed in his home, DFS took the children away because of sexual abuse allegations. Court documents show the foster kids themselves accused Milligan and his wife of the crimes, while Milligan says social workers coerced everything.

Milligan says he has plenty of evidence to support his defense. The McDonald County prosecutor has been assigned this case.

Milligan says he resigned from his job with the McDonald County Sheriff's Office. His next court date is scheduled for January ninth.

PINEVILLE, Mo. — A former McDonald County jailer has been charged with the sexual abuse of two children.

The McDonald County prosecutor charged David W. Milligan on Tuesday with two counts of sexual abuse after an investigation by a Newton County sheriff’s detective. Court documents indicate that the alleged offenses took place in 2010 and involved a girl and a boy who are now 11 and 13 years old.

Milligan, 51, began working at the McDonald County Jail in 2013. Sheriff Michael Hall said Wednesday that Milligan is no longer employed by the county.

Court records indicate that the McDonald County sheriff’s office asked the Newton County sheriff’s office to investigate the allegations against Milligan when they arose since he was an employee of the sheriff’s office. Since filing the charge Tuesday, the McDonald County prosecutor also has sought to be removed from the case, and Associate Court Judge John LePage has ordered that prosecution of the matter be transferred to the state attorney general’s office.

According to a probable- cause affidavit, a 13-year-old boy told investigators that six years ago that a couple encouraged him to touch the genitals of a girl who is now 11. He alleged that the couple watched them touching each other and would laugh.

The document further states that the girl was interviewed and told investigators that the couple would watch them have sexual contact, and then laugh and go into their bedroom together.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office indicated Wednesday that the case remains under investigation and that additional charges may be sought.

"We have been running our facility in a renovated doctor's office, part of it was originally a home that was built in the 1930's," says Jasper County Juvenile Officer Eric Theis.

Lack of space, accessibility and safety issues are just a few of the problems that will be fixed with the new center.

"It wasn't adequate for our needs," Theis says.

Now, a peek into the future, Jasper County's new Juvenile Service Center. It's a detention center and courtroom and onsite school for kids in trouble.

"One of the most important parts of a facility like this is we don't know what's going to happen with juvenile issues twenty years from now. So the ability to be flexible," says Dan Rowe with Treanor Architects.

The design uses nearly all the available space at the corner of 6th and Pearl in Joplin. There are eight sleeping rooms for the detention space, a number that could double if there's a need. But the focus on the new floor plan is treatment, not incarceration.

"Programming and classes and give them the tools necessary to become productive and that's what's ultimately what's important because they are children and they need help," Theis says.

The design is on budget, estimated at $10.9 million. It's an investment that Theis says will pay off with the county's youngest residents.

"Locking a kid up doesn't solve the problem. Find out what the problems are, work with the parents. Just a lot of exciting things that keep the kids busy, keep them off the streets, keep them engaged," Theis says.

Until the new center opens, Jasper County will continue to house juvenile offenders in the Greene County facility. Cutting out that hour drive to see family, their attorney or seek treatment is just one of those problmes they're working to elminate.

For the fourth year in a row, Roper Kia has held a toy drive and fundraiser to benefit the Children's Center of Southwest Missouri. During the month of April, Roper Kia encouraged members of the community to bring in toys in exchange for a free oil change. The dealership also donated a portion of the sale of every car bought during that month. Jack Frost says the end result was an $18,000 donation to the center, as well a thousand or more toys.

"Okay, last year we did 667 oil change certificates. This year, we did 862, so I'd say our goal was surpassed and mission accomplished," said Jack Frost, Dealer for the People.

The toys collected during this event should allow each of the children's centers locations to be able to give a toy to every child who comes through their doors, screaming wanting to go home and yet, if white with poor parents, about to be bought and sold to perverts or kept in pedo-poofter puppy mills awaiting to be dumped out when they reach 18 years old.

A Diamond School Board member is charged with two counts of second-degree rape.

Johnny Lee Russow, 44, turned himself in to Newton County sheriff’s deputies Thursday morning after charges were filed last Wednesday by the county prosecutor, according to Sheriff Ken Copeland.

The charges are for alleged incidents in January and February in Russow’s Diamond home with a girl who was 16 years old at the time, Copeland said, adding those weren’t the only encounters between Russow and the victim.

“Our investigation disclosed that there were numerous incidents reported,” he said. “The prosecutor had all the information and he’s decided at this time to file the two counts. I suppose other counts could be filed at any time.

“There were some reported occurrences that happened outside of this jurisdiction. Those agencies will be notified, and it will be up to them whether they open an investigation on it.”

The victim’s father alerted the sheriff’s office of the offenses, which sparked the investigation by detectives. Copeland noted that Russow is friends with the victim and her family.

The probable-cause affidavit for his arrest stated that, in one instance, the victim was at Russow’s house when he told his daughter to go outside and feed the animals. He called the victim into the bathroom and had sex with her there. She disclosed it happened another time when she went into his bedroom and he took off his pants and laid her on the bed.

Russow is free on a $6,000 code bond.

DIAMOND, Mo. — Former Diamond School Board member Johnny Lee Russow has been charged with statutory rape of a 16-yearold high school student.

Russow, 44, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with two counts of second-degree statutory rape after an investigation by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department. He posted a $6,000 bond Thursday morning and was released pending a court appearance.

Sheriff Ken Copeland said, “We were contacted by the victim’s father, who brought her in, and an investigation took place.”

The girl, a Diamond High School student, told investigators that Russow had sexual contact with her twice in January or February in Newton County. Before both of those occasions, Russow had had sexual contact with her in two other jurisdictions, the girl told investigators. Those locations are not identified in court documents.

Russow resigned from the board April 6 while the investigation that led to the charges was in progress, according to Diamond Superintendent Mike Mabe. The resignation was accepted unanimously by board members, Mabe said.

In a statement sent out Thursday morning, Mabe said, “We take the safety and well-being of our students very seriously. If charges are true, they go against the beliefs that our district stands by in educating our outstanding students.”

Jill Renfro, board president, said via email she did not have any comment beyond the district’s statement.

A judge this week granted Chris Simcox, the former nativist extremist known sarcastically among those on the border as the “Little Prince” because of his arrogant bearing, the right to represent himself in his forthcoming trial in Phoenix for child molestation — charges that could put him away for life.

Simcox’s trial was rescheduled on Monday for March 16 by Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Jose Padilla, who stipulated several rules for Simcox’s plans to conduct a self-represented (pro se) defense on three counts of child molestation and two counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

All this means that Simcox likely will be personally cross-examining his two young victims, who were ages 6 and 5 in 2013 at the time of their alleged abuse. According to the papers filed by prosecutors, Simcox “is alleged to have digitally penetrated his biological daughter’s [vagina] on two occasions, penetrated her vagina with an object on [one] occasion and to have fondled the genitals of his daughter’s friend on two occasions.

Jerry Cobb, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, told Hatewatch that victim advocates with backgrounds in dealing with sexual abuse cases involving children had been assigned to the two young girls.

But cases in which the victims of a sexual assault are required to face their accused attackers on the witness stand are relatively rare. Even rarer, according to legal experts consulted by Hatewatch, are pro-se cases involving child sex assault victims. In fact, allowing accused perpetrators of a sexual assault to directly cross-examine their alleged victims remains a controversial component of American jurisprudence. The practice recently came under intense scrutiny when a rape victim in Seattle, distraught with the prospect of having to face the man she said attacked her when she was a child, threatened suicide at the courthouse, after he won the right to represent himself.

“Judges can be very creative about this, but the fundamental constitutional right of somebody to represent themselves in trial is pretty strong,” said Patty Eakes, a former prosecutor now with the Seattle firm Calfo Harrigan Leyh & Eakes. “So it’s always a tricky position for a judge when someone decides they want to go pro se, and when they go pro se, then technically he has the right to examine the person.”

This often throws the courts into a balancing act between the rights of the victims and the rights of the accused. In any event, Eakes observed, Simcox was dooming his chances in court, as well as closing off at least one avenue of appeal (inadequate representation), by asking the court to represent himself.

“He may have delusions of grandeur about what a great job he’s going to do, but he’s going to have two strikes against him with that jury before he stands up, just because he chose to do this, right?” Eakes said.

Simcox had initially been offered a plea bargain that would have required him to serve 10 years in prison, but he refused and insisted on taking the case to trial. According to a report by Stephen Lemons of the Phoenix New Times, Simcox engaged in a tense back-and-forth with Judge Padilla during the hearing to determine if Simcox would represent himself.

“In a sense, I kind of welcome the trial,” Simcox said at the time. “I would relish the opportunity for the truth to come out.”

The developments are the latest in a long and twisted road to trail for Simcox, who previously had suggested he would present a “grand conspiracy” defense that he had been targeted for prosecution, and the evidence against him invented, because of his prominent role as a leader and co-founder of the nativist extremism group called the Minutemen.

At the height of the border movement, Simcox was president of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a nationwide, anti-immigration vigilante organization with armed “citizen border patrols” in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas, along with a smattering of states on the Canadian border where Minutemen had deployed to protect America from northern invaders. Never modest, the cigar-chomping Simcox was a hyper and relentless self-aggrandizer who came across with the smug egotism that quickly earned him the nickname “The Little Prince.”

But even then, there were allegations of sexual abuse.

As the SPLC reported in 2005, Simcox was accused by his first wife of molesting another daughter when she was a teenager, though no complaint was ever made to police. His second wife also sought custody of their teenage son because, she said, Simcox had become violent and unpredictable. His third wife — the mother of his current accuser — took out a restraining order against Simcox in 2010 when she divorced him.

When Hatewatch contacted Simcox then, he refused to answer four direct questions about the allegations.

“I would never answer those questions to you. You can’t ask those questions,” he said. “You’re on a witch hunt and you’re trying to discredit our movement, which is to secure the borders. … My personal life has nothing to do with anything that goes on here.”
