Former NSM Member Jeffrey Harbin
Back on January 30th, 2011, I first discussed the case of Jeffrey Harbin, a former member of the National Socialist Movement and a former associate with the U.S. Border Guard. Harbin was arrested on January 14th in Apache Junction, AZ after police stopped him and found 12 grenade-like improvised explosive devices built with PVC pipe filled with black powder, ball bearings and an improvised fusing system, along with explosive making powders and materials. A federal grand jury in Phoenix subsequently returned a three-count indictment against Harbin for possession of unregistered destructive devices and the unlawful transportation of explosive material.
The Phoenix New Times reports that Harbin pleaded guilty in federal court on September 26th, 2011 to making and transporting bombs. The plea agreement states that he won't get more than five years when he's sentenced by U.S. District Judge Neil Wake on December 13th; he faced up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Harbin was the target of an FBI informant who learned through Harbin's girlfriend that he had been building pipe bombs and invited him out for a meeting in preparation for what was purported to be operations along the Mexican border. Harbin showed up to the meeting in the informant's garage with two tubs full of bomb-making materials and a homemade grenade. After Harbin left, the informant called the cops, who swooped down and arrested Harbin the same day.
It remains questionable if and when Harbin would have employed those devices had the informant not targeted him. As Hal Turner illustrated, informants frequently pour gasoline on the fire and induce illegal activity while stopping short of actual entrapment.

After the initial arrest, both the NSM and the U.S. Border Guard disavowed Harbin. Arizona NSM Executive Officer Harry Hughes said that Harbin is no longer a member of the NSM, and further explained that NSM members do not condone violence. J.T. Ready kicked Harbin out of the U.S. Border Guard for being a thief and for strange mental behavior; his girlfriend was likewise banished for being a thief and creating drama. Sometimes good guys can go bad.
