A member of the National Socialist Movement, formerly the American Nazi Party, has been charged with disorderly conduct for his disruptive behavior and profane remarks during a Leith City Council meeting in mid-October.

Kynan Dutton, 29, of Oregon, is a white supremacist who recently moved with his two small children to the small Grant County town to join the effort to take over the town government and create an all-white enclave.

Grant County Sheriff Steve Bay said charges were filed because of Dutton’s attitude, condition and failure to listen to reason when Bay was summoned to the meeting. “It was just escalating,” Bay said.

Dutton and his children are living with Craig Cobb, who started the movement by buying up property in Leith and inviting other white supremacists to join him.

At the Oct. 13 meeting, Dutton was drunk and screamed profanities and racial slurs to others at the meeting, yelling out, “White power! Sieg Heil!” At the town council meeting Sunday, Dutton apologized for his behavior and said he is working on sobriety.

A court appearance is set for Nov. 12. The misdemeanor is punishable by $1,500 and up to 30 days' imprisonment.

Lee Cook moved to Leith not to escape his past, but to move beyond it.

He never imagined that he would be in top fold headlines once again, or that the 2000 murder of his young daughter would be used to goad him and open old wounds.

Cook is a city councilman in Leith, the tiny Grant County town that for nearly three months has been the focus of national and international news coverage about plans by white supremacists to take over the town’s government.

Leith is fighting back with new ordinances, but white supremacist Craig Cobb has moved the confrontation into extremely personal realms with Leith residents.

Few have been spared some level of humiliation. But Cobb’s attacks on Cook rise to a level beyond name-calling, racial slurs or ridicule.

In one of his posts, Cobb speculates that Cook’s personality may have had “something to do” with instigating the murder of Cook’s then 17-year-old daughter.

On White Nations, a website for white supremacists, Cobb writes, “From what I’ve personally seen of his acne-faced childish drama (and his wife’s), I do wonder if his pugnacious, punkish behavior might have had something to do with instigating the killer beyond what might have happened with a more mature, stable man.”

Cobb also walked up to Cook, holding a recorder, at Sunday’s town council meeting and loudly said, “Was your daughter murdered? Did you have anything to do with aggravating it?”

Cook, 49, a big, burly-sized man who’s heading up a crew for a well-known contractor in the area, said he sat on his hands and bit his tongue that night.

“I didn’t say a word. I knew what he wants me to do. He wants me to beat him so he can sue me,” Cook said in an interview Thursday. “It’s so evil for someone to go there. He doesn’t have limits. He’s desperate to make something happen because he’s losing his battle to take over the town.”

Besides implicating Cook in the murder, Cobb posts details of the murder, pictures of the murderer, Cook’s tax statements, and names and contact information for Cook’s family and friends.

Cobb said his attacks on Cook and others in town are fair play, the result of being put under duress.

“I’m about at the point of telling them where to get off. I’m not interested in their abuse,” Cobb said. “If that’s personal, what they’ve done to me is very personal.”

Mark Potok is editor of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Report and Hatewatch blog. Cobb has been on their watch lists for years.

Potok said vicious, personal attacks are trademarks of Cobb’s and neo-Nazis in general.

“Cobb is a particularly vicious human being. He comes off like Geppetto (from Pinocchio), a hunched over old man with slightly amusing ideas. But this is the man who moved to Estonia so he could post videos of Russian neo-Nazis sawing heads off non-white immigrants. He really is that terrible,” Potok said.

He said Cobb is filled with rage. “It never leaves him. He’s happy to make Cook miserable,” he said.

Cook asked the Tribune to make public the story of his daughter’s murder so it’s no longer a secret weapon Cobb can use against him on websites popular with racists and other haters.

This week, Cook talked about the murder openly and with obvious difficulty.

Krystle Cook was bludgeoned with a baseball bat by her mother’s boyfriend, Mike Andes. The Cooks, who lived in Longview, Wash., were divorced. The murderer, with help from male relatives, buried her body in a tree row and poured bags of lime over her to hasten decomposition.

It took nearly a year to unravel the murder and more than two years for it to come to trial, after which Andes was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The motive was apparently to get the daughter out of the way to get closer to her mother and her mother’s money, Cook said.

Cook said his successful real estate and property development business, worth $5 million, was in shambles and summoning the will to live every day took all he had.

He met his wife, Heather Cook, through church and they eventually decided to make a clean break from Washington.

“We moved away to get a different perspective here,” he said. Cook’s mother has a family connection in the Richardton area, so he started there and in July 2012, found an available, affordable house in Leith.

Their three children could ride horses with neighbor kids and they were living the quiet prairie life they’d imagined.

“We loved it. The people are so good. You can find land, but not people like this,” Cook said.

This past July, they purchased a different home in Leith, one with a barn, a shop and a little more land. It put them right across the street from Cobb, who Cook said seemed strange, but was rarely around.

Several weeks later, everything changed, when Cobb’s plans to populate Leith with other neo-Nazis and take over the town government went public, first in the Tribune.

Within two days, Cobb was fired from his job and living in his Leith home more or less fulltime. He has since been joined by two other white supremacists — one is Kynan Dutton, of Oregon, whose wife, Deborah Dutton, returned to Leith Thursday with three children. She had fled and left two children behind when Kynan Dutton exploded into a drunken rampage at a Leith city meeting three weeks ago. He has since been charged with disorderly conduct.

Cook said he’s no longer comfortable leaving his family in Leith when he’s at work, so they are all living in a camper closer to his job site.

“I wouldn’t feel so vulnerable if (my daughter’s murder) hadn’t happened. That’s why I’m so protective. It’s magnified 100 times because of what I’ve experienced,” Cook said.

Cook said he believes Cobb is more dangerous now because his plan is failing. Leith is working with an attorney, financed through donations to a defense fund, and put a moratorium on building until it has zoning and a land use plan. It’s also taking steps to require water and sewer, which Cobb doesn’t have hooked up in his home.

“They’re imperiously dictating how I’m going to live,” Cobb said.

Cobb has invited former federal prisoners to join him in Leith. “I received 6 or 7 letters from prison today when I picked up my held mail. We seek all politically, racially aware Whites — this includes combat war vets — Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan — and long-time incarcerated whites (especially from federal prisons). . . . We intend to collectively and cooperatively run our own affairs and become the political majority in Leith via the American way — the ballot box. We very much need your help and active participation,” he said in a White Nations post.

Potok agrees that Cobb is dangerous, but said, “He’s not a big man in the movement. He’s a loathsome individual, but he’s not a leader. He leads nothing.” It’s why Potok believes Cobb’s plan for Leith “is ludicrous on its face.”

Still, Potok said he doesn’t discount anything.

“Anyone who traffics in images of human brutality is someone to be careful with. Common sense dictates you’ve got to treat him like a rabid dog and he is a rabid dog,” he said.

Cook said he’s inspired to remain in Leith because people all around the world are supporting the town in its stand against being taken over by white supremacists.

“I’m not glad I’m in the middle of this, but I’m not a quitter. Our refusal to give up is the bottom line,” Cook said.

Rather, it was for good work, though he did end up residing in Leith a few months before pressing family matters required him to leave.

Craig Cobb has been active in the radical white-power movement for years -- he's known for running Podblanc, a neo-Nazi version of YouTube -- but he made the front page of the New York Times for the first time in August. The story was about Cobb's plans to transform the small North Dakota town where he has been quietly buying up property into a colony for white supremacists like himself.

Cobb has already offered homes to high-profile leaders of the white nationalist movement, including White Aryan Resistance founder Tom Metzger, April Gaede (mother of the reformed Prussian Blue pop singers), Alex Linder of the neo-Nazi Vanguard News Network, and Jeff Schoep of the National Socialist Movement.

Now, Cobb is extending the invitation to New Yorkers, too.

"I would like to invite people from New York, if they're tired of the multi-cult hell here, to come out -- white people -- they're welcome to, and I can get them good jobs on the block, making between $50,000 and $70,000 a year," Cobb said on the phone from Stamford, Connecticut. He was back in the Northeast to make an appearance on the Trisha Goddard Show.

What does North Dakota have that New York doesn't? A surplus of oil, and favorable regulations for companies intent on fracking the land for that oil. New York state still has a ban against fracking. The extraction process can have the unfortunate side effect of turning drinking water flammable, but it has also created jobs in North Dakota.

Cobb pledges he will drive anyone who makes it out to Leith, North Dakota, the hour and 45 minutes to its closest oil town, Dickinson, every day. He admits, "That's a little bit long, but I have two 4-cylinder cars, one gets 40 miles to the gallon the other 34, and I have a Durango, an 8-cylinder, with three seats a 4-wheel drive, and, again, I'm not going to charge anyone rent."

He seems optimistic that some New Yorkers might consider the proposition. "I think a lot of them are sick to their bones of the multi-cult -- especially the youth," Cobb says. "I want to tell the young people here, I'll help them -- the young white people."

The Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights organization that monitors hate groups, was the first to report Cobb's grand design for Leith. Mark Potok, editor-in-chief of the SPLC's quarterly journal, Intelligence Report, and its blog, Hatewatch, tells the Voice Cobb has been on the organization's radar for years.

Within the white supremacist world, Potok says Cobb isn't really affiliated with any one group; He describes Cobb as more of a "freelancer."

"He's been around the movement for a long time, but to describe him as any kind of leader would be entirely wrong. Is he vicious? Oh, yeah -- he's at the extreme end of the extreme world."

Back in 2006, Cobb attempted to create a similar space in Estonia. He purchased a house 30 miles outside of the capital, where he said he hoped to "network with White Nationalists throughout Europe and the United States, and especially to form an International Office of White Diaspora."

From the same house, Cobb ran the website Podblanc, which hosted graphic videos of racially motivated killings. Keith Luke, the 26-year-old sentenced earlier this year to two consecutive life term for a racially motivated murder and rape spree committed in Massachusetts, told officers he took inspiration from the site.

According to the SPLC, Cobb was kicked out of Estonia, Finland, and Canada (where he is wanted by authorities for "willful promotion of hatred") before he surfaced in North Dakota.

At the same time that Cobb is trying to lure other white supremacists to Leith, the residents of the North Dakota town are working as hard to drive Cobb out. Last week, the Leith city council passed a building ordinance that might give the council an opening. According to the Bismark Tribune, "Under the ordinance, anyone without water and sewer will have 30 days to come into compliance, or face fines or possible condemnation."

Cobb called the new regulations, which would affect his property, "patently unfair."

If Cobb's movement we're NOT associated with Nazis or White supremacists, would it then be OK to have an all-White community in North Dakota?

BISMARCK — A white supremacist trying to turn a small North Dakota town into an Aryan enclave is being required to install running water and sewer in his home, as the Leith City Council works to update the town's ordinances.

Craig Cobb says he will comply but that he also is pursuing a civil rights complaint with the state because he feels he is being unfairly targeted.

The City Council on Sunday approved a local law requiring water and sewer in occupied homes, as well as an ordinance preventing tents and campers from being set up on a lot in the city for more than 10 consecutive days, City Attorney Thomas Kelsch said Tuesday. The community that had 23 residents before Cobb arrived 1 ½ years ago is working to update planning and zoning ordinances that date back a century, and the council has imposed a building moratorium for up to six months while it completes the work.

"The ordinances we're passing apply to everybody in the city — they're not applying to Mr. Cobb directly," Kelsch said. "It's not any type of discrimination. We're doing it for the health and safety of the people."

Another couple in town that also would have been affected by the water and sewer ordinance has purchased a different home to comply, Kelsch said. Cobb sometime this week will be given a notice to comply within 30 days or face the possibility of a fine, a short jail stay or even condemnation of his property.

Cobb, 62, said he plans to install an internal water system using bottled distilled water and electrical composting toilets. He said the real issue is that the town is trying to force him out because of his beliefs and because of his efforts to buy up property and invite people with similar views to join him and create a voting majority.

"You would think the whole matter was merely about water and sewer. Those are just manipulations to defame me," he said. "I can bring things up to standard lickety-split; meanwhile they just look oafish and foolish."

Kelsch and Mayor Ryan Schock said the updating of ordinances is about ensuring a safe and healthy environment in town, and they are not worried about a civil rights complaint because they believe they are on solid legal ground.

"If you have a house, you want it livable. You want running water, and sewer," Schock said. "This whole thing comes down to common sense."

Cobb said it boils down to discrimination.

"It's because of my political and religious beliefs," he said. "It's pretty clear to the entire world, now."

I turned on my Galaxy Note 2 this afternoon. Kynan had a text to me and I called him for details.

This morning at about 2:30am, 3 drunk males approximately in their early 20's (one possibly dark or an Indian) and one drunk female, a redhead, slashed 5 tires of our vehicles, spray painted Creativity Cathedral of Credo 64 DNA Unlimited Engineering Due Now (Credo 64 Due Now), and spray painted two vehicles. The vehicles have 'back in black" painted on them too, as well as full length racing stripes. Freddy caught them in the act. They fled in a dark blue, almost black late model crew cab. They left considerable fingerprint and DNA evidence. I will probably put a $500 or $1,000 reward in the Grant County News, though the publisher, Jill Friesz, is very hostile to both me and my religion, and may refuse to carry the display ad. I will do the research and try to find out if this type of hate crime is a felony in ND, and what the range of penalties are. I will report all this to my HUD investigators Monday morning.

This hate crime, I feel, would not have been committed, had not Mayor Ryan Schock, Council members Leeland and Heather Cook, and Bobby and Sherrill Harper et. al. have made it the custom and policy of the City of Leith to systematically defame me to the press, deprive me of my property rights and impugn me and my religion, Creativity, to the world.

Kynan thinks he saw the truck, being followed by Leeland Cook's white truck, pull in front of Sherrill and Bobby Harper's later in the day for a visit.

Deputy John collected fingerprints and DNA on multiple beer cans they left strewn around Creativity Cathedral as well as 'Marlboro Black' ciggy packs. A prescription drug pill, maybe hillbilly heroin, was also found and preserved.

BISMARCK, N.D. — Vandals struck Craig Cobb's house and two vehicles parked outside early Sunday morning, targeting white separatists who plan to take over the small town of Leith.

The vandalism occurred at about 1:30 a.m. and is under investigation by the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy John Foss said.

Cobb, a neo-Nazi and hate crimes fugitive from Canada, has attracted strong opposition since he moved to Leith and purchased property to start an all-white enclave. The town has 24 residents.

In nearly three months of heightened emotions, it is the first time the tension has escalated to vandalism, Foss said.

Cobb was not home at the time, but Kynan Dutton, a member of the National Socialist Movement, said his wife, Deborah Dutton, and five children were sleeping when Alfred Borgmann, another of Cobb's followers, alerted them to the activity outside the house.

Dutton said he'd conducted his nightly patrol of Leith earlier that evening and because all was quiet, he concluded that nothing would occur.

Instead, Dutton said, five tires on two vehicles were slashed and vandals spray painted obscenities on his and Borgmann's vehicles. Vandals also spray painted the words "back in black" on Cobb's house and the vehicles.

Dutton said he saw three men and a woman jump into a dark blue extended cab pickup and speed off, leaving full and empty beer cans on the property.

Dutton said the vandalism was childish and not something his group would stoop to.

"I'm assuming this is only going to get worse," Dutton said. "We're supposed to be the hateful ones, yet we're getting hated on," he said.

Dutton said he's now maintaining a 24-hour watch on the property.

Cobb said he plans to offer a substantial reward and leaflet school students in Elgin for information.

Well, that's awkward: A white supremacist who made headlines worldwide for plotting to take over a town in North Dakota received the results of a DNA test -- and the results say he's 14% black.

And this all happened while cameras were rolling.

Craig Cobb, 61, who has tried to create a white enclave in tiny Leith, N.D., submitted a DNA sample to the "Trisha Goddard" talk show and got the results back during a recent taping.

The UK's Daily Mail newspaper got a copy of the segment of the show, which is nationally syndicated by NBC, and posted video of the moment Goddard read out the results to Cobb in front of a studio audience.

"86% European and," Goddard said, pausing as the audience started to cheer before she continued, "14% sub-Saharan African!"

The audience erupted in cheers and laughs as a grinning Cobb began to protest.

"Wait a minute, wait a minute, hold on, just wait a minute," Cobb said. "This is called 'statistical noise.'"

"Sweetheart, you have a little black in you," Goddard said.

"Listen, I'll tell you this, oil and water don't mix!"

"So, hey," Goddard said while raising, and then moved to fist-bump a reticent Cobb, "Bro!" Cobb declined to fist-bump.

Cobb told the Bismarck Tribune on Monday that he doubted the validity of the test and said he planned to take up to three more DNA tests and publish the results.

“I had no idea, or I wouldn’t have gone and done that, and I still don’t believe it,” Cobb told the Tribune. “I’ll find out with real science and get the whole DNA map."

Cobb's plot to take over Leith might not have been taken so seriously by activists and officials in North Dakota if Leith weren't so small. Cobb, a Leith resident, bought up several properties and invited other supremacists to move to the town. The Tribune reported in late October that three other male supremacists, with two children, were living Cobb's house.

The town had a population of 16 residents as of the 2010 Census, making a political takeover possible with only a handful of new residents -- which Cobb had called for in an announcement made on a supremacist message board in May 2012.

"For starters, we could declare a Mexican illegal invaders and Israeli Mossad/IDF spies no-go zone," Cobb wrote in the announcement, adding that he hoped new residents would always fly at least one "racialist" banner, such as a Nazi flag. "If leftist journalists or antis come and try to make trouble, they just might break one of our local ordinances and would have to be arrested by our town constable. See?"

Cobb's plans have since run awry of anti-supremacy activists across the state and of local health officials who have targeted Cobb's run-down properties for code violations.

Bobby Harper, a black resident in Leith, told the Tribune he thought Cobb's DNA results were hilarious.

“I knew there was one other black person in town," Harper told the newspaper. "Is he going to want to kick his own self out of town and discriminate against himself?”

I have been asked by some people in Grant County, North Dakota, including law enforcement, to tone down my comments or eliminate them entirely as all I am doing is inflaming people.

Cobb, I see you ignored my question about the kids. I'm not messing with you or trying to take a position against you. I'm just asking you a straight question. How do the children use the washroom and shower without basic water and sewer?
